The hour long journey travels through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, over a 100 year-old bridge, through an even older tunnel, along a river gorge and through Santa Cruz itself before stopping in front of the boardwalk. Henry Cowell is one of my favorite parks in Santa Cruz County. During my visit to Henry Cowell Redwood State Park, I basically stumbled on the Roaring Camp Railroad that is right on the other side of the parking lot.After walking around the beautiful Redwood Grove Trail, I went over to check out the train and got a ticket for the ride that was leaving 15 minutes later. The park at Henry Cowell has great Redwoods at the day use parking area which is 50 feet from Roaring Camp, so your day pass will get you parking at the day use area and save you $8.00 in parking at Roaring Camp. The day use area at the park access is on Hwy 9 downtown Felton. There are 2 train rides. The Fall Creek trail follows Fall Creek up the drainage. Explore this beautiful babbling creek and the natural surroundings of Henry Cowell Redwood State Park. The elevation gain is almost entirely along the first half of the loop. Once you reach the Big Ben Tree you will travel downhill on the way back to the trailhead.
